Summertime sadness? 🤨
MORE LIKE SOLSTICE SAVINGS MADNESS! 🤪
I'm changing things up today! Normally this is the part of the Monday email where I would wish you a happy lesser holiday with some random snippets of nonsense about each one, but we have more pressing matters to attend to (though you are still very welcome to celebrate National Selfie Day, Summer Solstice, and/or National Take Your Cat to Work Day if you feel so inclined).
You see, beyond today being the longest day of the year, it also happens to be Boredwalk co-founder Meredith's birthday! In celebration of this momentous occasion (at least here at Boredwalk HQ), we are doing something we almost NEVER do.
Now through midnight TONIGHT, you can save 21% on ANYTHING you order from our website when you use the code
MEREDITH21
Seriously, this is a deeper discount than we have EVER run before — including on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, and those usually only kick in after your cart is full of stuff and hit a certain value. THIS code applies to even single-item orders. WILD!
But again, it DOES expire at midnight tonight. I'm not sending another email tomorrow proclaiming "EXTENDED!" or whatever other marketing tricks you're accustomed to seeing in your inbox. So don't dilly-dally!
Before we delve into this week's community Q&A, let's celebrate some notable June 21st birthdays! (Other than Meredith's of course.)
Happy birthday to pioneering existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, born this day in 1905! A great many Boredwalk designs over the years have been inspired by Mr. Sartre — including a handful of our bestsellers — so we would be remiss in not honoring this philosophizing dynamo!
Next, happy birthday to actress Maggie Siff, born this day in 1974! You may have seen Ms. Siff on episodes of Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, and most recently doing VERY impressive work in the role of Dr. Wendy Rhoades on Billions.
Moving along, happy birthday to actor Chris Pratt, born this day in 1979! He may have become a household name thanks to the Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises, but to me he will always be Andy Dwyer, mastermind behind Pawnee, Indiana's favorite band MouseRat.
Also cut a piece of cake for Mr. Brightside himself, singer Brandon Flowers, born this day in 1981! Mr. Flowers shot to fame in the early 2000s as the front person of The Killers. From 2003 through 2017, Flowers and The Killers released five consecutive chart-topping albums and have sold over 22 million copies thereof. Not bad for a band from Vegas!
Love him or hate him, today is also the birthday of famed intelligence leaker Edward Snowden, born this day in 1983! I, for one, believe that Mr. Snowden did the right thing, even if it was not technically legal. If you happen to disagree, that's cool, too!
Finally, happy birthday to melancholic chanteuse Lana Del Rey, born this day in 1985! Ever since the release of her debut single 'Video Games' and its smash followup 'Summertime Sadness', Ms. Del Rey has topped the charts multiple times and received six Grammy nominations. Impressive!
OK! Assuming I don't die before then, I'll be back in your inbox on Wednesday morning with links to fun distractions! Before that, though, scroll down and learn all about fellow Boredwalk fan Kayla B.! As usual, if you'd like to be featured in an upcoming email, reply to this and let me know! Until next time...
Peace, love, and SAVINGS,
Matt
Kayla inviting you to our kind of party — the Misery Party!
1. What's your actual day job and what's your dream day job?
My actual job is marketing and business development for an international law firm. My dream job, depending on the day, is professional book reader, dog petter, or wedding planner.
2. What keeps you up at night?
Usually my neighbors fighting outside my window but also the ghosts of snacks past and the sweet, sweet blue light of my phone screen.
3. If you drink: what's your go-to drink? If you don't drink: what's your go-to dessert or snack?
I'm a fruity drink kind of gal, but I also love all things Moscow Mule.
(Editor's note: There are limes in Moscow Mules! Limes are fruits! By the transitive property, Moscow Mules are fruity drinks!)
4. Where can the rest of the Boredwalk community find you?
Either in Fairdale or at Nolin Lake, both in Kentucky. Oh and on Instagram, @kay.la.boyd
