Happy National Air Traffic Control Day! Thanks for keeping those birds in the air and far away from one another if you happen to be an air traffic controller. We appreciate your dedication to keeping our airplanes from colliding overhead and raining flaming hot death down upon us.

Quick housekeeping note: congratulations to Andrea C. for coming closest (and replying fastest) to correctly answering my question in Monday's email asking for the three sci-fi franchises I have never watched a single episode of!
No one correctly guessed all three, but since Andrea got 2 out of 3 and was the first to reply, she's the winner of a free t-shirt! If you're curious, those shows are:
• Battlestar Galactica (both original series AND the 2005 reboot)
• Dr. Who
• Babylon 5
Lots of respondents correctly answered either Battlestar Galactica and/or Dr. Who, but not a single person ventured Babylon 5 as one of their guesses. Which is surprising! It had five seasons to Firefly's one, but Firefly received way more guesses.

• Actor, director, and writer Sylvester Stallone was born this day in 1946! Boxing movies were never the same.

• Rapper and actor Curtis James "50 Cent" Jackson III was born this day in 1975! Wankstas have been on notice ever since.
• Comedian and actor Kevin Hart was born this day in 1979! Jokes about being short were never the same.
• Actress Eva Green of Penny Dreadful fame was born this day in 1980! I have nothing to add here except you should check out Penny Dreadful if you haven't yet.

This Instagram account is full of photos and video tutorials showing the creations of gorgeously detailed textile dolls that, yes, further reinforce my impatience for Halloween.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, creepy dolls wash ashore and ruin your day at the beach. Or enhance it, if you're a creep like Boredwalk co-founder Meredith, who was delighted when she found out about this phenomenon and insisted I share it with you to fuel your nightmares.

This artist successfully paints a cucumber with such stunning detail that it blends in with the real thing!

5. What every girl wants

Grace from Boredwalk's content team breaks down what women really want over on our YouTube channel. Unsurprisingly, our videos attract an unsavory element (read: pathetic trolls) in the comments. Go laugh (and then tell those jerks where they can go).
