😞 We've all fallen into this trap.
We've all done it, even though we (should) all know better. Someone says something dumb online and we feel compelled to let them know just how stupid they are, or maybe to try and make them see reason and come around to our way of thinking. I can assure you that you cannot reason with idiots on the internet. Taking their bait and getting into an argument with them won't change their behavior or bring you any joy. Just let them continue being an idiot, barking into the digital void. #Don'tFeedTheTrolls
🤨 Sounds sinister, but ok.
I've most often heard "pick your poison" as a bartender's euphemism for asking what you want to drink, but it can also refer to picking between two unsavory options. Sounds kinda like my morning at the polling booth voting* in the California primary.
👹 Need a little pep in your step to tackle the week?
It's National Eye Wear Day. You're forgiven if you've been operating under the misconception that I am an ardent celebrant of this holiday. One look around my messenger bag, car, office desk, etc., and you'd wonder "how many pairs of sunglasses does a person need?!"
🤷🏻♀️🤷🏽 Interpret this how you will...
It seems fitting that this is our first new art in months, since there are a few people in the Boredwalk cast of villains deserving of the message.
A childhood dream realized 🤩
The concept of pen pals feels like a bit of an antiquated idea, but when I was a kid I always wanted one. I had heard about this idea of trading letters with a stranger, writing them stories adorned with stickers and doodles, and getting something similar back in the mail.
🤫 My secrets revealed...
Fun fact: The creative content you see from Boredwalk (emails, tweets, products) all comes from me and my partner/bestie/co-founder Matt. I do the ideation, joke writing, and creative direction, Matt does the design and illustration. We take turns writing these emails, Matt writes our text message blasts, and we both contribute the jokes that we use in our ads. Our creative dynamic is kind of like a band with one person who writes lyrics and sings, and another who writes music and plays guitar.
Mid-week wasted, but classy 🍇
Look, with how things are shaping up so far this week — nay, this year — National Wine Day hasn't arrived a moment too soon. If you want to blot out the bleak reality in which we all find ourselves trapped AND appear sophisticated, then a bottle of vino is the perfect companion. They even have non-alcoholic options now for those who don't partake but still want to drink liquid out of fancy fragile glassware!
Nothing lucky here 🖤
I'm generally not a believer in superstitions, and as such, I do not own a lucky penny or other "lucky" items. If I were to buy into luck though, I'd say I'm not really one to attract it.
🤓 I have edits...
Smack dab between Mother's Day and Father's Day, the calendar is now imploring us to visit relatives in a more general sense. If you like your relatives, by all means, pay them a visit, but if they're not your cup of tea I urge you to put your time and energy into relationships that bring you joy.
Go hug a tree...🌳
I like trees, but love might be a strong word. Maybe it's that creepy book Shel Silverstein wrote, The Giving Tree, wherein the passive-aggressive doormat of a tree sulked as a self-absorbed boy destroyed it. My mother told me that story was a allegory for parenthood, and strangely I never had any children of my own. I wonder why...
As if I needed an invitation...😋
To be perfectly honest, dear reader, every day is eat what I want day, so I'm not sure today is anything special for me. But if there's something you're normally not treating yourself to, today's the day to indulge according to the calendar.
🔍 Of all the the things I've lost...
It's National Lost Sock Memorial Day! I have no real concern for misplaced socks because years ago I started buying identical socks so losing a single sock would never be noticed. A handy life hack if you also don't care much about socks.
