National Drink Wine Day
If you've been following Boredwalk for a minute, you know we write the funniest tweets. We get a lot of requests to turn them into shirts and don't often do that for a few reasons (which you can read about here if you want the details).
She is clothed in anxiety and loungewear 😔
Happy Friday? Normally this is the part of the email where I tell you about some obscure mundane occasion like National Chocolate Covered Nut Day, but it just doesn't feel that interesting. After two years of death and pandemic we're sliding into death, war, AND pandemic. Our species really knows how not to have a good time!
Wanna get away from it all? ✈️
Happy National Day of Unplugging! Today's frivolous occasion invites us to take a virtual vacation from technology and enjoy the physical world for a change. I know the siren call of infinite doom scrolling can be difficult to escape, but since it's also National Snack Day you could always distract yourself with some chips and dip.
🥳 You know what they say: no one parties...
Happy Worship of Tools Day! I've been trying to suss out who is responsible for designating March 11th for this purpose (my research* turned up nothing concrete, but I suspect it was a brand marketer at Black & Decker or Craftsman), but the word choice does make sense in that we often worship things we fear.
How do we work on our people skills? 😏
First, an apology. If you happen to be a regular reader of Boredwalk's emails, you may have been surprised earlier this week to receive what should have been our Weird Wednesday email on Tuesday.
😋 In a world where you can eat anything today...
Happy National Empanada Day! Honestly, though — empanadas, pasties, pierogi, samosas, spanakopita, whatever — just put tasty fillings into pastry dough and put the resulting golden brown deliciousness in my food hole.
🤔 Your guess is as good as mine...
I could stand a life with a little less wild guessing, since that's what I spend most days doing. Will the ad work? Will our audience appreciate this new product? Will this new hire pan out? Will I fail miserably and completely at running Boredwalk and end up living in a cardboard box under an overpass? My mental magic 8 ball is exhausted.
Going green when you mostly wear black 🖤
Since 1970, humans have been pretending to care about the planet for this one random day in April, while we spend the other 364 days of the year being the most destructive species on our ailing blue marble.
🌐 The real reason for the internet? Let me tell you...
It's Viral Video Day! Since the early days of video on the internet, people have been trying to make viral videos. Sure they can be helpful for cash or fame, but really behind it all is a desire for approval from people we've never met. Don't we live in fun times?
May the eye rolls be with you...🙄
This is actually my way of telling you how much I do not care about Star Wars Day*. Yeah yeah, it's a cultural phenomenon. Unpopular opinion: the franchise is way overrated, I did not enjoy the original films or the numerous prequels, sequels, spinoffs, etc., and as someone who ordinarily loves a pun, I don't care for your "May the fourth be with you" jokes. You can have 'em, just don't expect me to be impressed. I'd sooner celebrate National Weather Observers Day, which is also today.
🦝 Plans for the week? You might say that...
May already isn't trying, so why should we? Case in point, today's lesser holidays include National Life Insurance Day (yawn) and National Truffle Day, an unremarkable sweet treat if you ask me.
😲 How a Vacation Rental Almost Killed Me! 😵
I have always adored storytelling. Reading, writing, going to storytelling shows. I am all about today's occasion. In light of the day, I thought I'd tell you about the time Boredwalk co-founder Matt and I nearly got killed by a vacation rental.
