🙌 Ringing in the week with exciting news! 🎉
OUR VINTAGE-INSPIRED V-NECK RINGER FLASH SALE STARTS FRIDAY!
Sure, it may be National Rum Day, which is worthy of celebration, but this email has a higher calling — to announce that it's almost time for our next limited edition flash sale! This coming weekend we'll be selling these sweet vintage-style v-neck ringers for a whopping 25% off, so be sure to mark your calendar and keep your eyes peeled for Friday's email to get 'em before they're gone!
These hot little numbers are made of premium medium-weight 100% combed ringspun cotton for extra softness and comfort and are available up to a size 4X (comparable to a women's 26/28 dress size). Boredwalk co-founder Meredith rocks them all the time at the office and is super-excited to finally be able to offer them for a limited time!
You don't have to take MY word for it, though — our models Jo, Michelle, and Taffeta adore them, too!
Corey Haim gets it, and he was Lost Boy-adjacent, so he knew his stuff!
Today is also National Tell A Joke Day, so here you go:
Q: What do you call it when two houses have the same backyard decor?

Before we delve into this week's community Q&A, let's celebrate some notable August 16th birthdays!
Happy birthday to poet, novelist, and short story writer Charles Bukowski, born this day in 1920! Over the course of his life Mr. Bukowski wrote thousands of poems, hundreds of short stories, and six novels, eventually publishing over 60 books.
A very jazzy birthday to legendary pianist Bill Evans, born this day in 1929! Mr. Evans recorded with some giants of jazz, including playing piano on arguably Miles Davis' greatest achievement, Kind of Blue, which remains the best selling jazz album of all time.
A very fabulous birthday to the original small screen Catwoman, actress Julie Newmar, born this day in 1933! Ms Newmar is still working in Hollywood today, most recently reprising her role as Catwoman in the 2017 animated feature-length film Batman vs. Two-Face.
Happy birthday to the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna, born this day in 1958! Madonna is one of the most successful recording artists of all time and one of the most influential figures in popular culture. People haphazardly throw around the word "icon" a lot these days, but in Madonna's case, it applies.
Happy birthday to actress, director, producer, and activist Angela Bassett, also born this day in 1958! Ms Bassett has built her career playing strong Black women, including an Academy Award-nominated performance as Tina Turner, as well as Coretta Scott King, Betty Shabazz, and more recently as Queen Ramonda in the MCU's Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame.
Finally, happy death day to The King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Aaron Presley, who died this day in 1977. If nothing else, he finally got some well-deserved rest.
OK! Assuming I don't die before then, I'll be back in your inbox on Wednesday morning with links to fun distractions! Before that, though, scroll down and learn all about fellow Boredwalk fan Travis R.! As usual, if you'd like to be featured in an upcoming email, reply to this and let me know! Until next time...
Peace, love, and dad jokes,
Matt
Danielle & Travis looking stylish in the recording studio and ready to rip a cinematic book adaptation apart.
1. What's your day job and what's your dream job?
Actual Job: Transponster
Dream Job: I would love to do voice acting or read audio books
2. What keeps you up at night?
Usually a book I was supposed to have read for our book club (or editing an episode of our podcast).
3. What's a life pro tip the Boredwalk community needs to know?
Advice my dad gave me: keep working on your thing — your job, your hobby, your sport, whatever — not everyone will notice, but the right people will.
4. What experience do you most want to cross off your bucket list?
I've always wanted to go to Japan — specifically, to visit a hot spring up in the mountains.
5. If you could have any super power what would it be and why?
The proportionate strength of a spider. In my younger days, I might've said web swinging, but I'm afraid I'd get motion sickness if I tried that now...
6. You can curse your nemesis with a minor annoyance for eternity; what do you choose?
Wherever they are, the WiFi signal is weak — but never gone. Always just strong enough for their phone to try to connect, but never strong enough to actually hit the internet.
7. Clear up a misconception (about your job, where you are from, some other topic you know a lot about).
Not everyone in Texas has a horse. I've lived here 16 years now and I only know, like, three people who do.
8. Where can the rest of the Boredwalk community find you?
You can join my lovely wife, my friends, and me for our book club / movie review podcast at www.RTFBpod.com. We usually focus on the more well-regarded book-to-movie adaptations, (your 2001: A Space Odysseys, your Fear and Loathing in Las Vegases) but we aren't averse to the occasional Hallmark movie...
📚 Feeling bookish? 🤓
🍓 Wanna unnecessarily complicate things?
🐺 Time to hit the road, amigo! 🦇
DON'T FORGET THE SNACKS! 🩸🦇
I was all set to start this sentence with an enthusiastic "Happy Monday!" until I remembered that no one ever says that. So instead, Happy National Book Lovers Day! If you happen to be a full-on bibliophile, or just someone that peruses the latest bestselling beach read, salud!
You stay the f$&k away from my stacks, handsome/murderous Joe Goldberg!
Today is also Islamic New Year, so blessings to you this Muharram if you happen to observe it!
*****
Speaking of observing things, if you happen to to live in an area with very low levels of light pollution, be sure to have a little extra caffeine on Wednesday & Thursday night and pop outside for a gander at a stellar light show courtesy of the Perseid meteor shower!
Boredwalk co-founder Meredith and I catch it every year — hence our shining a spotlight on our Vlad & Wolfie's Road Trip Adventure t-shirt up top — and this year's is primed to be an especially rad display since the Moon just entered a New phase, keeping the sky over the next few days nice and dark. Trust me; you want a very dark night sky so those shooting stars really pop! No one wants a low-contrast stargazing experience.

Before we delve into this week's community Q&A, let's celebrate some notable August 9th birthdays!
Happy birthday to actor, novelist, and playwright Robert Shaw, born this day in 1927! Mr. Shaw was a respected multi-hyphenate from a young age, joining the Royal Shakespeare Company at 19, but his most famous role as the grizzled shark hunter Quint in Jaws came just three years before his death in 1978.
Happy birthday to actor Sam Elliott, born this day in 1944! Mr. Elliott has built a career as something of a character actor focusing on westerns, but in this guy's opinion, his finest on-screen role was as Wade Garrett, bar bouncer mentor to Patrick Swayze's character in Road House. I specify "on-screen" because...
...today is also the birthday of wildfire prevention icon Smokey Bear, whose creation was authorized by the US Forest Service on this day in 1944! Learning about Smokey Bear is a rite of passage for several generations of outdoorsy American kids, and he can still be seen in current ad campaigns voiced by (wait for it) Sam Elliott! It's like he was BORN to play Smokey!
A very musical birthday to actress and singer Whitney Houston, born this day in 1963! Ms Houston was one of the bestselling recording artists of all time, with over 200 million albums sold, and won SO many awards. 2 Emmys, 8 Grammys, 16 Billboard Music Awards, 22 American Music Awards, and more!
A very science-based birthday to actress Gillian Welch, born this day in 1968! Ms Welch is the famously skeptical Agent Dana Scully in the X-Files franchise universe.
Finally, happy birthday to actress and singer Anna Kendrick, born this day in 1985! Ms Kendrick has been in lots of stuff since the early 2000s, some famous (The Twilight Saga, the Pitch Perfect franchise) and some more low-key (Up in the Air, 50/50, Life After Beth, and most recently in Roku TV's Dummy).

1. What's your day job and what's your dream job?
I'm a voice actor (voice of 'Muddy' in Vector Games' Dark Raid) and part of a radio morning show, so I'm kinda DOING my dream job. Maybe if I were pulling down a million a year then I really could call it my "dream" job! Great use of that Architecture degree, am I right?
2. What keeps you up at night?
Basement dwelling trolls. (Ed. note: Is this a problem in your neck of the moose-y woods?!)
3. What experience do you most want to cross off your bucket list?
I'd love to watch a sunrise from the steps of the Parthenon in Greece.
4. If you could have any super power what would it be and why?
I'd love to have the ability to reach through a router and slap the crap out of a critic. (See "biggest pet peeve.")
5. You can curse your nemesis with a minor annoyance for eternity; what do you choose?
Random helium voice during intimate moments!
6. What's a surprising fact about you?
Just because I was born in New Orleans doesn't mean I party 24/7. There are LOTS of reasons that I do that!
7. Where can the rest of the Boredwalk community find you?
⚾ Guess what's about to be gone in a flash? ⚡
🥂 What white wine pairs well with chocolate chip cookies? 🍪
You can't buy these shirts! 😲
It may be National Ice Cream Sandwich Day, but I have even more EXCITING news to share!
This coming weekend we are running a flash sale from Friday 8/6 through Sunday 8/8 for select Boredwalk designs that we'll be offering on ¾ sleeve baseball raglans (as seen up top) at a discounted price!
📚 It's Paperback Book Day! You know what that means...
🥳 You call these holidays? Gimme a break!
I hope you're prepared to indulge in a little wishful time traveling with me, because today's lesser holidays are even lesser than usual.
If today were yesterday, we'd be celebrating delicious occasions like National Scotch Day and National Crème Brûlée Day. Don't those sound scrumptious?
🐶 Dog daze? We're gonna need some coffee, stat! ☕
Well, here we are — another Monday in the dog days of summer. BOOOO!
This did get me thinking about the term "dog days of summer," though. Dogs are (culturally speaking) man's best friend. We love dogs! So why are we besmirching their good name to describe such a hot, sweaty, sticky stretch of meteorological misery?
